Ride the RideauMDS Nordion is excited to be the title sponsor for the inaugural 2010 Ride the Rideau event benefiting cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Funds raised through this 100 kilometre road bike tour, which follows the scenic Rideau River from Ottawa to Merrickville-Wolford, will help build the new Centre for Innovative Cancer Research and support crucial local research projects that could impact cancer care around the world. |

BODY WORLDS & The BrainMDS Nordion has long been a leader and partner of choice in the field of medical imaging, helping to find new and innovative ways of seeing inside the body, with a view to improving human health. As such, we are a proud sponsor of BODY WORLDS & The Brain, coming to Science World, at TELUS World of Science, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on September 16, 2010. This all-new version of Dr. Gunther von Hagens’ world-famous exhibition looks at the body in a previously unseen way. With over 200 authentic human specimens, and highlights on recent neuroscience findings on brain development, function and disease. BODY WORLDS & The Brain was created by anatomist, Dr. Gunther von Hagens, inventor of plastination—the groundbreaking method of anatomical specimen preservation. This technology allows authentic specimens to be displayed in a lifelike fashion for instruction and education, giving you an opportunity to appreciate what it really means to be human. |
Bench to BedsideMDS Nordion recognizes the significant value molecular imaging plays in the future of our global health care. A rapidly growing and essential tool, molecular imaging offers the highest standard of medical care helping physicians provide patients with an earlier, more accurate diagnosis and safer, more effective treatments. This includes special medical scans and state-of-the-art technology like PET/CT* scans and SPECT/CT* scans. To help increase awareness and demonstrate our commitment to the advances in quality medical care, MDS Nordion is a sponsor of the Society of Nuclear Medicine Bench to Bedside Molecular Imaging Campaign, an effort to translate molecular imaging into clinical practice. The financial goal is to raise $5 million over a five-year period. Our support will assist in the four specific areas of need including: supporting advocacy for molecular imaging; educating and promoting collaboration with referring physicians and patient groups; training and educating the current imaging workforce and future generations of practitioners on the applications of molecular imaging; and supporting innovations in translational research-the research that "translates" an innovation from basic science into practice-from bench to bedside. *Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT) are imaging techniques. |

The Annual Ottawa Hospital GalaPresented by MDS Nordion, the annual Ottawa Hospital Gala is one of this city’s must-attend events each year. This black-tie affair is a salute to the ground-breaking research being performed at the world-class Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Since its inception, attendees and community supporters have helped raise more than $800,000 in support of critical research activities including cancer and neuroscience. Each year the event recognizes the achievements of three prominent researchers who are making a difference in global health care. The following were honoured for their outstanding achievements in health science at the 2009 Gala:
